E-Privacy Directive

The European Communities (Electronic Communications Networks and Services) – Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2011, transposed into Irish law the EU ePrivacy Directive. This law is frequently referred to as the Cookie law. IAB Ireland members can read more about this in the following:

The Data Protection Commission (DPC) is responsible for the implementation of this law and the DPC has issued guidance in relation to storage and accessing information on terminal equipment e.g. “Cookies” – download the specific Guidance Note Issued by DPC re Cookie usage.

The EC is currently in the process of substantial reform of Data Protection rules since the proposed Data Protection Regulation is to create a single Data Protection regime in Europe the rules will undoubtedly impact on the current ePrivacy legislation.
